Students Earn Regional, State Honors Ensemble Recognition

Webster CSD is proud to announce two students who were selected to represent their school at the New York State School Music Association (NYSSMA) Conference All-State in Rochester, held November 30-December 3. Selected from more than 5,000 auditions this past spring were Webster Thomas seniors Abigail R. (drum set) and Lauryn W. (Soprano 2). Chosen as an alternate was Webster Schroeder senior Sam L. (tuba).

Abby performed with the All-State Instrumental Jazz Ensemble, under the direction of Dr. Jimmy Greene. Lauryn performed with the All-State Mixed Chorus, under the direction of Dr. Gary Packwood. After three days of intensive collaborations and rehearsals, the jazz concert was held at the Theatre at Innovation Square; while the mixed chorus concert was held at Kodak Hall at the Eastman Theatre. Both directors brought years of professional knowledge to life with motivated students from across 15 regions of New York State.

“These accomplishments are due to years of personal growth in the technical challenges of musicianship and artistry,” said Michael Roller, Webster CSD Director of Fine Arts. “Not only are these students exceptional musicians; they are well-rounded young people who excel in academics, sports, extracurriculars, and service organizations. I also want to applaud the parents and teachers for their support of students who dedicate their time to such an achievement. It really does take a community to help students realize their full potential.”
