Spencerport Central School District launched a pre-kindergarten pilot program in the fall of 2020 at one elementary school and now, three years later, the pre-K program serves 108 students across all four elementary schools.
The full-day sessions offer a foundation for our youngest students to:
develop learning skills through curiosity and play,
engage in early numeracy, reading and writing experiences,
foster gross and fine motor skills, and
participate a variety of activities to develop social and emotional skills
In addition to classroom experiences, students participate in the four specials areas of art, library, music and physical education.
Teacher Sarah Caiazza said of pre-K, “Not only are the students who participate in Spencerport pre-k exceeding kindergarten expectations academically, but we are seeing these same students often become leaders in their kindergarten classrooms. They gain confidence through their learning experiences, eating in the cafeteria, moving through the halls, and using lockers. It is also rewarding to see students who are excited to help their peers.”
