Students in the Monroe 2-Orleans BOCES Preschool Program at Autumn Lane Elementary in Greece are already experimenting and exploring science. Teacher Stephanie Sekaz and her OT Amanda introduced the class to the world of inquiry and STEAM (science, technology, engineering, art and math) with an exercise for their five senses. Students gathered vinegar into pipettes and then added it to dishes filled with "pumpkins" they made of baking soda, water and food coloring to see the chemical reaction that was triggered. The baking soda pumpkins dissolved! Students also experimented with mixing colors: greens, turquoises, blues and oranges. A great way to learn and have fun!
