Community Webcast: Parent Partnerships in our Local Schools

Researchers have found a strong correlation between a parent’s involvement in their child’s school and student success, including better attendance, fewer disciplinary issues, higher grades, and greater likelihood for graduation.  Parents who are engaged in their child’s school also report more positive relationships with teachers and administrators, stronger connections with other parents, and more confidence in asking for supports when needed.

However, navigating educational systems can be confusing and intimidating, especially for families who face historical barriers involving culture, race, language, trauma, and power imbalances.  In some ways, as one parent commented, “We have privileged certain types of parent engagement.”

To learn more about the proactive steps that schools are taking to engage parents in positive partnership, join the webcast at actforeducation.org. The webcast is free and open to the public.
