On Oct. 10, the Kendall Fire Department educated Kendall students about fire prevention. This is the first year that Kendall students had a chance to tour the new safety house provided by Orleans County that better simulates a typical house layout. Kindergarten and first grade students had a chance to learn about the equipment on a fire truck and worn by a firefighter, ask questions of the firefighters, and walk through the cab of the truck. They learned about fire safety and what firefighters do to help in emergencies. Third graders went into the burning house simulator and learned how to find the closest exit while staying low to the ground to avoid smoke inhalation. They also learned about going to a meeting point once they have exited a burning structure. Fifth graders attended an assembly conducted by the fire department.
